Why Should I Study Hymns?

One of the most important activity we can do is singing! Scientific findings have revealed recently that support what Scripture and 2,000 years of church history has revealed: music, intelligence, and learning are significantlt related. Therefore, singing materially affects our actions.

What we sing is even more vital. When we sing praises to God or about God, our spirit man inside is lifted up therefore strengthening our spirit. The stanzas of some of the hymns are poetic. They are powerful when just reading the words of them.

Singing hymns also put vocabulary into you so that they can easily be recalled when you are worshipping God in the Spirit and in Truth.

Singing is vital to the health of the church (I don’t mean the building with the four walls). A powerful force is released when music is combined with God’s Word. Martin Luther said, "The gift of language combined with the gift of songs was given to mankind to let him know that he should praise God with both word and music."

“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” ~ Colossians 3:16
