Book Burning (Acts 19:18-20)

And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed.” (Acts 19:18-20)

Book burning? But, I LOVE books! But, not those kind of books. I LOVE books that will speak the Truth, and not hid it nor fancy it all up. Instead, I like books that will point me to Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Messiah.

In the above mentioned Scriptures, we see that many came confessing their evil ways and those who practiced magic basically burned the books. However, lets take a closer look at it.

One thing I want to state that the books in those days were very expensive as it clearly points out the total books burned were fifty thousand pieces of silver. They wasn’t making a statement or doing want the ‘Jones’ were doing but it was an act of true repentance. To the magician, those books would’ve been their livelihood. This passage is an excellent glimpse of a true Christian conversion in writing!

Then, the word of the Lord grew mightily, and prevailed!

If you haven’t participated in a book burning of your books that are not God-honoring, I encourage you to light the match now! Not sure which books burn, ask God and He will show you. You’ll be amazed, even the ones you thought were right on – you know above-board, but isn’t the Truth at all.
